This past December, more than 200 children from low-income families throughout the state received new hats, gloves, scarves, coats, boots, blankets, and books. Thank you to the donor families and the organizations who collaborated with us to identify the families in need- both helped to make this program a huge success.
2011 Thanksgiving Food Program
This past Thanksgiving, CTPFC provided full Thanksgiving meals for 36 families, including 94 children, throughout Connecticut. In order to help us run this program, Hot Tamale Mexican Bar & Grille donated $500, Seymour Stop & Shop donated a $500 gift certificate, and Scott Grossman of New Jersey donated $450. Without their generous donations, this program would not have been possible. A special thanks to Seymour Housing Authority, the West Haven Child Development Center, and TEAM Inc. for collaborating with our organization and helping to identify the families in need.
Our mission
CT Partnership for Children is dedicated to supporting low-income children throughout Connecticut, by working with their families and the communities in which they live. We do this by meeting their basic needs of food, clothing, warmth, and infant/toddler necessities & by promoting healthy social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
Help fight child poverty in Connecticut
We are always looking for volunteers at events and to help run our programs. We welcome student interns ages 16 and up. We also encourage schools, groups, and organizations to run diaper, food, and clothing drives to help our families.
Diaper Bank
At this time, our Diaper Bank is being stocked, but diapers and wipes are available to qualifying families. If you or someone you know is struggling to meet the basic needs of their infant(s) and/or toddler(s), please contact us immediately.
Since 2009, CTPFC has been a grassroots fundraising, all-volunteer organization, run by a Board of Directors. In November 2011, founder, Meghan Tarby, was hired as the Executive Director of the organization. CTPFC continues to be funded by grassroots efforts and will continue to apply for grant money to run programs that support the mission of the organization. At this time, CTPFC is looking for up to ten members of the community who are interested in becoming additional members of the Board of Directors.

Census Data on Child Poverty in Connecticut
New Census data from the American Community Survey confirm that poverty has risen sharply over the decade due to the economic recession. In 2009, 9.4% of Connecticut residents (320,554) had incomes under the Federal Poverty Level, up from 7.3% in 2001. Among Connecticut children under age 18, 12.1% (96,893 children) lived in families with incomes under the Federal Poverty Level in 2009. (For a two-parent household with two children, the poverty level was $21,756 in 2009.)
Connecticut Voices for Children, a research-based think tank that analyzed the Census data, stated that poverty trends reflect the impact of the recession, which began in March 2008. While there was no statistically significant increase in statewide poverty rate between 2008 and 2009, Connecticut had already experienced the largest increase in poverty of any state between 2007 and 2008. There was a significant increase in poverty among all Connecticut residents between 2007 and 2009, rising from 7.9% to 9.4%.
With the establishment of the Child Poverty Council in 2004, Connecticut became the first state in the nation to set a goal of reducing child poverty -- by half by 2014. In 2003 (the baseline year for the Council), 10.8% of Connecticuts children in families (related children) had incomes below the poverty line. The state set a goal of reducing the poverty rate to only 5% of children in 2014.Connecticuts 2009 poverty rate for children in families (11.9%) has significantly worsened over the last decade (the 2001 rate was 9.7%). To meet the goal of reducing child poverty by half, Connecticut must reverse course dramatically, according to Connecticut Voices.
Our diaper bank is available to clients who qualify for services. The diaper bank is funded and stocked by grassroots fundraising and community organizing. For the past two school years, Oxford Center School has run a diaper drive for us that have provided hundreds of dollars for the purchase of diapers and dozens of packages of diapers. Our Board members, interns, and volunteers have also run diaper drives over the past couple years at Stop & Shop stores throughout the state.

Thanksgiving Food Program
Hot Tamale Mexican Bar & Grill and Stop & Shop, both of Seymour CT, in addition to Scott Grossman of New Jersey, are proud sponsors of our 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Food Program. Drop off locations included Mike Ziniak's Academy of Tae Kwon Do in Oxford, and the Body Shoppe Salon and Mad Hatter Boutique in Seymour. We collaborated with the Seymour Housing Authority, TEAM Inc., and the West Haven Child Development Center to provide full Thanksgiving meals to 36 families, including 47 adults and 94 children.
"Helping Hands, Warming Hearts"
2011 marks the 3rd year of our winter family sponsorship program. This year, St. Thomas the Apostle Church donated their entire giving tree to us. We have collaborated with TEAM Inc., the WIC Program of the Valley Health District, and the West Haven Child Development Center to generate a list of more than 200 children so we can provide them with items that meet their basic need of "warmth." This program provides hats, scarves, gloves, coats, winter boots, blankets, and books (to promote literacy and cognitive development) to these children during the winter/holiday season.
